Cal Poly Senior Portraits in San Luis Obispo
The biggest start to your life is graduating college. I love photographing seniors, and their individual personalizes. Senior sessions are the sessions that I can get super creative with incorporating their personalities and making it unique to who they are.
This senior session was of Karina, a chemistry major at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. We got to shoot around downtown San Luis Obispo, the heart of where Cal Poly is. I thought it would be really interesting to incorporate smoke bombs with her session and make it look like a science experiment. I had never done smoke bombs, so it was a first time experience for both of us. I wasn’t sure on what to expect while pulling the bomb apart like a grenade, as you can see in the behind the scenes video at the bottom of the page. They turned out great along with the rest of the session.
It's always fun shooting in downtown San Luis Obispo because it has so much of a variety of places to shoot. We started at the creek and walked along it. We then went into a favorite ice cream shop called Batch.
A short rant on Batch – it is an amazing ice cream and cookie shop. You pick two cookies, your flavor of ice cream and a topping, and then they then make you the best ice cream sandwich, EVER. The best combination of foods possible, runner up is PBJ& Cheeto sandwiches (if you have no idea what I’m talking about, head over to my about me page!).
Anyways I was able to incorporate the ice cream sandwich into a few photos, because why not!? After walking around for other shots, we ended the session on top of a parking garage for the smoke bomb photos. It was funny seeing how many people were so curious about what we were doing, but we did look mysterious. The outcome of the smoke looked so incredible; I am looking forward to using them in future sessions!
