I graduated from Cal Poly!
“You’re off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting…So get on your way!” (Dr. Suess.)
Well, I am now officially a college graduate from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I received my BFA with a concentration in photography (Photography, never would have guessed that one, right). What an adventure the past five years has my life been.
I started out at the community college in Lake Tahoe, then moved to San Luis Obispo to attend Cuesta college and to work my way to San Jose State. Right before I was supposed to move to San Jose, I had a quick change of mind not wanting to leave the ocean. I made a risky decision staying in San Luis Obispo, turning down SJSU and putting all my eggs in one basket to apply to only Cal Poly.
To get into Cal Poly as an art degree student, I had to be accepted just as a typical student based then upon acceptance I had to put together a portfolio and artist statement to submit to a panel of judges. From here, the portfolios are judged anonymously whether I was to be accepted or not. Thankfully I was, if they didn’t like it, then I wouldn’t have been able to attend at all. Cal Poly was a fast two years that flew by. I was always enrolled in more than what was considered full time, so balancing all my classes with photography was extremely difficult.
Accomplishing two AA degrees while working toward my bachelors and trying to build my business in a new place. There were some challenges, ups, and downs. But I can finally say that I am DONE with school! I am so excited that I am back in my hometown, Lake Tahoe and to start focusing 100% on Alyssa Poland Photography.
There shouldn’t be any surprise with how I decorated my cap! Would anyone expect anything less?
